SKU: Case-2371
Case No. 2371: ALEXIS TAN YENG CHENG is a handsome, cheerful and bright boy. However, he was born with permanent profound hearing loss in both ears and has relied on hearing devices since childhood to hear the sounds around him.

[From being unable to hear to hearing again.]

His father, TAN SIEW LUNG (41 years old), said that when Yeng Cheng was almost one year old, the family noticed that he did not respond no matter how many times they called him. After undergoing examinations, he was diagnosed with severe hearing loss.

When Yeng Cheng was three years old, his grandaunt, TAN MOY LAN (65 years old), sought help online in the hope of helping him hear. Eventually, he received a cochlear implant in his left ear and was able to hear sounds again.
In 2022, when Yeng Cheng was eight years old, we successfully raised funds for a hearing aid for his right ear. His grandaunt expressed her gratitude and said that after wearing the hearing aid, Yeng Cheng could hear more clearly and became more energetic and confident.

Yeng Cheng is now attending school. His teachers and family have noticed that when his hearing condition is stable, his concentration, understanding and ability to express himself improve significantly. His instructor from a brain development course also said that Yeng Cheng is a smart child, but because he relies heavily on sign language, his speech development has been slow and he does not speak much.

Although he continues to attend a special school and learn sign language, his family actively encourages him to communicate more through spoken language.

[Damaged hearing aid affects his learning and daily life again.]

A few months ago, the hearing aid that Yeng Cheng had been using for years suddenly stopped working and had to be sent overseas to the original manufacturer for repair.

For a 12-year-old child, hearing affects not only daily communication but also classroom learning and future development. Without his hearing aid, he may once again face difficulties hearing clearly and keeping up with his studies. He needs to have his hearing aid repaired and returned to him as soon as possible.

Yeng Cheng is the only child in his family. His father supports the family through part-time manual labour, while the family is currently staying with his grandaunt. As she is already retired, she is unable to afford the repair costs and has therefore sought help from us once again.

After reviewing the case, we decided to raise RM4,066 for the repair of Yeng Cheng's Nucleus CP90 Sound Processor (Nucleus 6) hearing aid. The amount also covers the replacement of the hearing aid battery and cable.

Your kindness will help this cheerful and optimistic boy continue to hear the world around him clearly and give him greater confidence in his studies and future. We also sincerely hope that you can share this appeal with others so that more kindness can be gathered and Yeng Cheng can receive the support he needs as soon as possible. Thank you.
