Case No. 2362: Two years ago, Tan Sai Hooi (59 years old) went to the hospital after suffering from a persistent cough. Sadly, she was diagnosed with lung cancer. Faced with this sudden and devastating news, her family never backed down. They remained committed to her treatment and continued to support her throughout her journey. However, the challenges did not end there. Towards the end of last year, the cancer gradually spread to her brain, spine and bones.
In an effort to control the cancer, she bravely underwent Gamma Knife radiotherapy to treat the metastatic tumor in her spine. Despite the difficult road ahead, as long as there was still hope, her family held on to one another and refused to give up.
【One challenge after another, the family struggles to cope.】
On 25 February this year, another unexpected setback struck. Her husband, Chio Yong Chai (62 years old) shared that his wife suddenly became dizzy and fell at home, hitting her head. She was rushed to the hospital, where doctors discovered that a brain tumor had caused a small blood vessel to rupture, resulting in a mild stroke.
Because her body was extremely weak, Tan Sai Hooi was unable to withstand the risks of surgery. Doctors could only treat her with laser therapy, together with medication to control her condition.
More recently, she was admitted to the hospital again after suddenly experiencing difficulty breathing. This time, doctors advised that she must have an oxygen concentrator in order to be safely discharged from the hospital and continue her recovery at home.
【Her children are doing everything they can to care for their mother.】
In order to devote himself fully to caring for his wife, who is now unable to move around independently, Chio Yong Chai made the painful decision to close the grocery shop that the couple had worked so hard to run for many years. With the shop closed, the family's only source of income was suddenly gone.
Tan Sai Hooi and her husband have four children. Their two sons are working away from home, while their eldest daughter works as a clerk at a factory near their home. Although their incomes are limited, all the children have been doing their best to contribute to the family's expenses.
Her 24-year-old youngest daughter, Chio Yee Tong, went even further. She made the difficult decision to resign from her job as a clerk and stay at home, joining her father in caring for her mother day and night as her condition continues to deteriorate.
Over the past two years, the family's savings have been almost completely depleted by the enormous costs of cancer treatment, hospitalization and medical expenses. Faced with the RM4,500 cost of a 5-litre oxygen concentrator, the family has truly reached the limits of what they can afford. They have no choice but to seek assistance through us.
After careful review and assessment, we have decided to launch a crowdfunding appeal for Ms. Tan Sai Hooi, with a target of RM4,500 to purchase the oxygen concentrator she needs to sustain her breathing and return home.
【Please lend a helping hand and give her the comfort of breathing safely.】
Every act of kindness can help give Tan Sai Hooi another breath of comfort and bring a little warmth and hope to this family. Even if you are unable to make a donation, sharing this appeal is also a meaningful way to spread love and help this family receive the support they need as soon as possible. Thank you.
