SKU: Case-2348

Case No. 2348: Eleven-year-old Fiera Irica Binti Faizul Illiazar suffered severe oxygen deprivation to her brain during a difficult birth, resulting in Spastic Quadriplegic Cerebral Palsy (GMFCS Level V). Immediately after birth, she was admitted to the Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU), where she spent the first 14 days of her life. From that moment on, her journey has been far more challenging than that of most children.

She is unable to stand, walk, or speak. Every aspect of her daily life depends entirely on the loving care of her family, who look after her around the clock.

[She can hear and she understands.]

Her mother, Fazidah Binti Ibrahim (45 years old), shared that although Fiera cannot respond with words, she communicates through her eyes, facial expressions, and soft murmurs, gently telling her parents, "I know you're here with me."

Because she is unable to control the movement of her limbs, she often accidentally bites her own lips. She also continues to rely on a feeding tube for nutrition.

Nevertheless, her family patiently helps her practise oral feeding every day, hoping that one day she will be able to slowly eat by mouth again.

[She has already endured two major surgeries.]

Fiera has undergone two major operations. The first was a right leg tendon release surgery to relieve severe muscle spasticity and stiffness caused by cerebral palsy. The second was a major scoliosis correction surgery, during which metal rods were implanted to stabilise her spine.

Following the spinal surgery, her condition became critical and she was admitted to the Intensive Care Unit (ICU) once again. Throughout those difficult days, her mother stayed faithfully by her bedside with only one wish in her heart: "As long as she can stay safely by my side, that is enough."

[A mother who chose to become her full-time caregiver.]

Fiera is the only daughter in the family and the treasured child of her parents. Previously, she was cared for by her grandmother while her mother continued working to support the family. However, during the Movement Control Order (MCO), her grandmother was diagnosed with cancer, and her mother also lost her job. Without hesitation, her mother chose to give up her career and become Fiera's full-time caregiver.

Today, the family of three survives solely on the modest income earned by her father, Faizul Illiazar Bin Abdul Aziz (45 years old), who works as a clerk.

The couple has developed an unspoken understanding—whenever one of them needs to leave the house, the other will always remain at home to care for Fiera.

Years of hospital follow-ups, treatments, rehabilitation, and the daily cost of medical consumables have placed an overwhelming financial burden on this single-income family. Left with no other option, they turned to us for help.
