Case No. 2325: Since the third day of his life, Muhammad Akmal Hariz Bin Harun has undergone seven to eight surgeries. His tiny body is covered with surgical scars, each one a testament to his fight for survival. Since birth, he has spent almost his entire life in the hospital.
[Fighting for his life since birth.]
Akmal's mother, Narimah Binti Abdullah (29 years old), still vividly remembers the day he was born. Shortly after delivery, Akmal cried while lying on his mother's chest. However, once the doctor carried him away, he suddenly became silent and quickly turned blue. Doctors discovered that he was suffering from severe oxygen deprivation and respiratory distress, requiring immediate intubation and emergency resuscitation.
Further examinations revealed that Akmal was born with a complex congenital heart condition—Transposition of the Great Arteries with Intact Ventricular Septum (TGA/IVS), which caused critical oxygen deficiency. At only three days old, he underwent a series of major surgeries, including balloon atrial septostomy, arterial switch operation, patent ductus arteriosus ligation, and atrial septal defect closure.
Unfortunately, his challenges did not end there. Akmal is currently battling multiple serious medical conditions, including:
• Tracheomalacia
• Suspected gastroesophageal reflux disease (GERD)
• Evolving cerebral palsy
• Recurrent infections with suspected primary immunodeficiency and partial DiGeorge syndrome phenotype
• Hypothyroidism
• Developmental delay and failure to gain weight
Due to severe breathing difficulties, Akmal underwent a tracheostomy on 5 February 2026. He now depends on a tracheostomy ventilator to breathe and is fed slowly through a nasogastric tube. Doctors once admitted that his condition was so critical that they believed he might not survive. Yet, this little fighter has overcome the odds time and time again.
[A mother's determination, a child's courage.]
Akmal is the sixth child in the family. His father, Harun Bin Mohd Isa (39 years old), works at a fish stall, while his mother stays home full-time to care for him. To prepare for bringing Akmal home, his mother has learned how to replace his tracheostomy tube, perform suctioning, and feed him through a nasogastric tube. Akmal also requires a medical bed, which has been generously donated to our centre by a kind donor and will be given to the family.
However, his parents are unable to afford the essential medical equipment he still urgently needs and have turned to us for help. The required medical equipment includes:
• Oxygen Tank: RM1,330
• Tracheostomy Tubes: RM1,422
Total Required: RM2,752
After careful discussion, we have decided to launch a fundraising campaign to cover the cost of these essential medical supplies for Akmal.
We sincerely appeal to compassionate donors to extend a helping hand and give Akmal the chance to continue his courageous fight for life. Please also help us share his story so that more kind-hearted people can learn about his situation and offer their support. Thank you.
