FUNDRAISING CASE 2273 ATHIYYAH NAFEESA JAMILUDDIN
At six years old, a child should be happily asking endless “why” questions about the world. But for her, the world has always sounded distant and unclear. Until her adoptive mother made one life-changing decision — to help her “hear clearly".
Case No. 2273: ATHIYYAH NAFEESA JAMILUDDIN urgently needs a cochlear implant surgery. We sincerely appeal to the kind-hearted public to help raise RM60,000 so she can have the chance to truly hear the world around her.
This is a critical stage for a child’s learning and development. The earlier the surgery is performed, the better her chances of hearing clearly, learning to speak, keeping up with her education, and building a brighter future.
[Not related by blood, yet loved like her own.]
This is a deeply touching story of love and sacrifice. Six years ago, 29-year-old EZZAZILAWATI BINTI MD ZIN adopted a two-week-old foreign baby girl who had been abandoned by her biological parents. Though they share no blood relation, she chose to dedicate her life to protecting and raising the child with unconditional love. Becoming a mother made her stronger — because a mother’s love knows no limits.
[She made a late discovery that broke her heart.]
When the child turned three, EZZAZILAWATI began noticing something unusual. No matter how many times she called out to her daughter, there was no response. Medical examinations later confirmed devastating news: the child was suffering from Bilateral Profound Sensorineural Hearing Loss, meaning she could barely hear the sounds of the world around her.
Following the doctor’s advice, she began using hearing aids in the hope that they would help her hear at least a little. Unfortunately, hearing aids can only amplify sound, they cannot help her hear clearly. Sounds still remain muffled and fragmented, making it difficult for her to learn speech, communicate effectively, or even notice dangers approaching from behind.
Unable to rely on spoken communication, her mother patiently taught her through hand gestures, facial expressions, and body language. The child, too, tries her best to respond to this love. She listens most to her mother, and whenever she feels happy or wants to express gratitude, she gently sends a flying kiss — a tender gesture from a child who cannot clearly hear, yet is trying her hardest to communicate.
[She is already six and time is running out.]
Doctors strongly recommend that she undergo cochlear implant surgery as soon as possible, including the implantation of an audio processor (Synchrony 2 S-Vector with Rondo 3 or Sonnet 2 Audio Processor). Restoring her hearing is essential for her to learn speech and integrate into mainstream education. Without the surgery, she may never be able to speak normally or fully adapt to society. This is not just about hearing sounds clearly but it is about her entire future.
[The cost of hearing the world clearly.]
The total cost of the surgery and medical equipment amounts to RM75,700. While the hospital has already managed to secure part of the funding, there is still a shortfall of RM60,000. For a single mother working as an administrative staff member, this amount is far beyond what she can afford despite all her efforts.
Her wish is simple: not for her daughter to be ahead of others, but simply for her child to hear someone calling her name and to recognize danger from behind.
An abandoned child was fortunate enough to find an adoptive mother who never gave up on her. Today, her life stands at a crucial turning point. We sincerely hope the public can help her move from a world of silence and uncertainty toward a future filled with clear sound and hope.
Your kindness can help her hear the world, including her mother’s loving voice. Please also help share this story so more compassionate people can extend their support. Thank you.
