Case No. 2268: An elderly man urgently needs RM4,500 to determine the cause of his worsening condition. He hopes that with the support of kind donors nationwide, he can undergo a comprehensive genetic test overseas to identify the root cause of his illness and receive appropriate treatment before his mobility deteriorates further.
Mr. Chuah Lee Hing, aged 68, began experiencing weakness in both legs during the Movement Control Order (MCO) period. What initially seemed like simple fatigue gradually worsened over time. He progressed from unstable walking to frequent falls, including one serious accident that resulted in an ankle fracture. He took a month of medical leave in hopes of identifying the cause, but instead of answers, his condition deteriorated further—his leg muscles began to waste away.
This is not merely a case of age-related decline. His muscle mass in both legs continues to decrease, and additional symptoms have appeared. Recently, even his hands have begun to feel numb.
He now relies on a walking stick and must move with extreme caution to avoid falling again.
[Risk of further deterioration without diagnosis.]
Mr. Chuah previously underwent genetic testing provided by a government facility, but the scope was limited and did not yield a definitive diagnosis.
His youngest daughter, Chuah Siew Peng (40 years old), shared with social workers that after his hospital admission for testing, her father was also diagnosed with high blood pressure, along with heart and lung issues, which raise further concern for his health.
Doctors have advised that only a more comprehensive genetic test conducted overseas can help determine the true cause of his condition and guide further treatment.
[A lifetime of hard work, now struggling to stand.]
Mr. Chuah was once a construction worker who supported his family through years of hard labor. Today, he struggles even to walk and has been forced into early retirement. His savings have been nearly depleted due to ongoing medical expenses.
He and his wife have four children, three daughters and one son. Each of them is working hard to make ends meet, but their limited income makes it impossible to cover the cost of the required medical testing. As a result, his youngest daughter has reached out for help.
After review by us, a decision has been made to raise RM4,500 (approximately USD 1,050) to fund the overseas genetic testing.
For an elderly person, the ability to walk independently and care for oneself represents dignity and quality of life. Your support could give Mr. Chuah the chance to find answers and regain his independence. We sincerely appeal for your kindness and generosity. Your contribution may be the key to restoring his ability to live with dignity.
