Case No. 2210: Mr. Choi Yew Loy, aged 63, is currently battling serious illness. He has undergone removal of his left kidney and a colostomy procedure and is now unable to pass stool naturally. His daily life depends on colostomy bags and related medical supplies. We sincerely appeal to kind-hearted members of the public to help raise RM2,000 to support the purchase of these essential supplies and to fund his future stoma-closure surgery, helping him through this difficult period.
It is not that he has not tried. He has simply reached a stage where he can no longer support himself. Being elderly, unemployed, and without income after falling ill, he is unable to bear these medical expenses and can only turn to the public for help.
[Diagnosis that changed his life.]
In mid-October 2024, during a routine medical check-up, Mr. Choi was found to have persistently low blood pressure and blood in his stool. After further examination, doctors diagnosed him with Mid Rectal Adenocarcinoma with Left Renal Mass.
As his condition worsened, he had to undergo a colostomy to assist with bowel movement and surgery to remove his left kidney. After the operation, he could no longer sit for long periods, maintain a very light diet, and now relies daily on colostomy bags as essential medical supplies. He is currently waiting for his body to recover sufficiently before undergoing stoma-closure surgery.
[Remaining optimistic despite serious illness.]
When speaking about his illness, Mr. Choi does not complain. He calmly says that being able to walk despite his condition is already a blessing. When asked whether losing a kidney makes him feel dizzy or uncomfortable, he simply smiles and says: “Then I’ll just rest earlier.”
These simple words reflect both the helplessness of a patient and his quiet resilience and acceptance of life.
[He cannot fall for the sake of his elderly mother.]
Mr. Choi is unmarried and the youngest in his family, with one older brother. Both brothers are already elderly and take turns caring for their 93-year-old mother, who has mobility difficulties.
Mr. Choi previously worked as a welding technician, but due to his age, he is no longer employable and has completely lost his source of income. After falling ill, his situation worsened. Because of financial hardship, he is currently borrowing colostomy supplies from a friend who also requires them and relies on friends for daily living expenses. However, this is not a long-term solution, as his friends have their own difficulties.
Faced with the ongoing need to replace colostomy bags and the upcoming cost of closure surgery, Mr. Choi is truly unable to cope financially and has turned to us for assistance.
We have decided to launch a RM2,000 fundraising initiative to support Mr. Choi. The funds will be used for:
1.Convatec 416421 Natura+ Drainable Pouch (with InvisiClose), 57mm Transparent (10 per box) RM130 per box × 6 boxes = RM780
2.Convatec 125265 Sur-Fit Natura Two-Piece Stomahesive Skin Barrier, 57mm (10 per box) RM90 per box × 8 boxes = RM720
3.Stoma-closure surgery cost = RM500
[Your support gives him strength to carry on.]
RM2,000 may not seem like a large amount to many people, but for an elderly, unemployed patient with no income, it is an overwhelming burden.
We sincerely appeal to the public to extend a helping hand to Mr. Choi so he can get through this most difficult period. Every act of kindness will be an important source of strength for him to continue moving forward.
We also kindly ask you to share this appeal, so more people can learn about his situation, and he can receive help sooner. Thank you.
