SKU: Case-2157

Case No. 2157: Chng Vicky, a 20-year-old girl, is fighting a long and difficult battle against Recurrent Embryonic Sarcoma of the Liver. She urgently needs RM75,000 for life-saving sarcoma removal surgery and chemotherapy. This rare malignant tumor is extremely aggressive, once discovered, it must be removed immediately, or it will grow rapidly and invade nearby organs.

[Three surgeries and two chemotherapies]

At 20, like many other girls her age, Vicky was full of youthful dreams. But during a sports activity organized by friends when she was 15, she suddenly experienced severe stomach pain. What seemed like a minor issue turned out to be the start of a long struggle against illness.

Initially, doctors thought it was just bloating and prescribed medication. However, when her symptoms persisted, further examinations revealed a rare malignant tumor.

Since then, Vicky has undergone three surgeries: at age 15, again at 19, and the third earlier this year when she turned 20. She has also gone through two rounds of chemotherapy, leaving visible scars on her body. Sadly, her fight is not yet over. She still has remaining sarcoma and will soon need to undergo her third round of chemotherapy.

[Vicky’s transformation: from resentment to acceptance to hope]

During her first surgery, Vicky managed to stay positive. But when the cancer returned the first time, she admitted she felt resentment: “Why me?” She could not understand why this was happening to her.

Over the years, however, her mindset changed. She realized that to survive, she had to let go of negativity, trust her doctors, and believe in her own strength to fight the disease.

This is the simplest yet strongest belief of a 20-year-old girl. She dreams of recovering, returning to her studies, pursuing her passions, traveling, and seeing the wider world.

[The smile that hide the storms]

The successful completion of Vicky’s first sarcoma surgery and subsequent chemotherapy brought her parents a sense of relief. But four years later, the cancer returned.

When Vicky and her parents shared their story, they wore faint smiles and held back tears. They did not complain, not because they were free from pain, but because after so many setbacks, they had learnt to face hardship with calmness.

In that moment, one could feel both their silent strength and helplessness hidden behind their smiles.

Vicky is the youngest daughter in the family and has a 22-year-old sister currently in university. Her father, Chan Soon Hoong (54 years old), works as a renovation worker with an unstable income. Her mother, Lee Chee Lai (52 years old), resigned from her sales job to take care of Vicky full-time. The entire household now depends on the father’s earnings.

Each tumor removal surgery costs about RM25,000, and after years of treatment, the family’s savings have been completely drained. Her condition is recurring frequently, and the mounting medical bills have left them unable to handle the financial burden.

[An urgent call for help]

Earlier this year, a fast-growing tumor near her stomach had to be removed, along with parts of the affected organs. Now, she is facing yet another surgery and chemotherapy. Her father shared that the relapses are happening closer and closer together, leaving them exhausted and heartbroken.

But the greatest burden is financial. Out of desperation, Vicky’s parents turned to us for assistance.

We have decided to launch this crowdfunding appeal and sincerely call upon kind-hearted people nationwide to stand with Vicky, offering her blessings and support. Together, let us raise the RM75,000 needed for her sarcoma removal surgery and chemotherapy. Please also help by sharing this appeal so the target can be reached as soon as possible, and Vicky can receive timely treatment. Thank you.
