FUNDRAISING CASE 2062 OLIVIA LUCILLE SPANDONIS
We cannot delay this surgery any longer. Four-year-old Olivia is suffering from a condition where her urine flows backward into her kidneys. If bacteria infect the urine, it could cause permanent kidney damage, which will affecting her health and life forever.
Her condition has already become severe. She urgently needs a vesicoureteral reflux corrective surgery, which costs RM20,000. But for her family, this amount is unbearable. We humbly request help from kind-hearted people to save this poor little girl.
Case No. 2062: Olivia Lucille Spandonis may look just like any other little girl. She loves to play and often asks her mother to tell her stories. But inside her small body, an illness has taken hold. Since infancy, she’s had to visit doctors repeatedly due to recurring urinary tract infections (UTIs), and behind those infections hides a bigger threat, which is a potential kidney damage.
When Olivia started eating solid food at six months old, her discomfort was initially thought to be part of the normal growing process. But eventually, she was diagnosed with a UTI. By the time she was one, she had suffered three similar infections. Doctors then recommended a specialized medical examination, and the results revealed she had vesicoureteral reflux on both sides, a condition where urine flows from the bladder back into both kidneys. Her parents’ initial panic gradually turned into a heavy sense of helplessness.
[Doctors urge immediate surgery.]
The doctor explained that this is a serious congenital condition. If the urine continues to flow backward and gets infected, it could cause permanent kidney damage. Surgery is urgently needed to prevent the situation from worsening and affecting her for life.
Doctors also told us that surgery is the only way to truly help Olivia.
[Parents desperate to save their daughter but struggling financially.]
Olivia’s parents are a working-class family from abroad. Her mother, MA. Arelcia Bocade Spandonis (45 years old), works as a general clerk, and her father, Peter John Spandonis (52 years old), is an IT technician who supports the whole family. However, the father suffers from long-term high blood pressure, diabetes, and a slipped disc, which require constant medication and treatment, putting a strain on the family’s finances. Their 19-year-old daughter is still in school, and her tuition and living expenses already leave the family barely scraping by.
Every time Olivia goes for a hospital follow-up, her mother handles her with great care, afraid that even the slightest mistake might worsen her condition. Every time their daughter cries from the pain, her father turns away in silence, hiding his tears. They’re just ordinary parents trying to protect an extraordinary child.
We have decided to launch this crowdfunding appeal to help Olivia. We hope to gather kindness from the public to raise the RM20,000 needed for surgery so that Olivia can be free from constant UTIs and kidney risks and enjoy a truly healthy and joyful childhood.
