Case No. 850: Da Ai’s Crowdfunding for Single Father Junaidi and the Cleft Lip Surgery Fee of His Son
“Single father cannot afford his ankle surgery fee as well as his son’s cleft lip surgery fee. As he is unable to work, the family is having huge financial crisis. Immediate help is needed”
42-year-old Junaidi bin Iyop is a bank security guard. His wife and him divorced a few years ago, and Junaidi was forced to take care of his three children, 14-year-old son Rizwan, 12-year-old daughter Dalhada and 6-year-old son Rizman.
His youngest son Rizman has severe cleft lip problem and the doctor recommended him to fix the problem through a surgery when the baby was born in 2013. However, Junaidi cannot afford both the surgery fee of his son and the family’s living expenses at the same time. Hence, the cleft lip problem of his son’s has not been fixed to date.
Junaidi was working as a warehouse administrator at Mydin Nilai but was fired by the company due to the Covid-19 pandemic. Being the sole breadwinner of the family, he decided to persevere and landed a job as a security guard at Ambank Petaling Jaya.
Just when he thought things are taking an auspicious turn, he fell down during a night shift last month. As he was still in his probation, he was not protected by SOCSO. Hence, he had to bear all his medical expenses.
Junaidi must go through a surgery in order to continue to work, but with everything not going his family’s way, the tough Junaidi is very helpless.
Through kind-hearted people on the Internet, Da Ai social workers paid Junaidi and his family a visit. Upon the visit, we realised that their living conditions are awful as the house does not have a proper bed or other furniture. Hence, during the second visit, we sent them simple mattresses and food for emergency purpose.
Single fathers do not receive as much attention as their female counterparts; thus, the former is under more pressure than the latter. Junaidi devoted to raise all three of his children. The strong-willed single father showed how selfless parental love can raise children to become tough and mindful persons.
Persatuan Kebajikan Amal Da Ai Malaysia calls upon enthusiastic philanthropists to lend a hand to single father Junaidi to overcome his hurdles. A total of RM18,800 is needed. The details are as follows:
Medical fee for Junaidi: RM6,000 (Intramedullary rod fixation, hospital admission and follow-up fees)
Cleft lip surgery fee for the youngest son: RM5,000 (Surgery, hospital admission and follow-up fees)
Rental for a year: RM450 x 12 months = RM5,400
Living expenses for a year: RM200 x 12 months = RM2,400
Total: RM18,800
