Case No. 1700: Baby Alifa, who was born with congenital heart disease, is facing a threat to her life as she urgently needs surgery to survive.
At just over a month old, Alifa requires a heart operation to stay alive, but her young parents with meagre income cannot afford the hefty cost of RM100,000. They earnestly appeal to kind-hearted people to donate and save their daughter's life.
According to medical reports, Alifa Zea Amanda needs an Arterial Switch Operation and Patent Ductus Arteriosus (PDA) closure surgery to restore the two main blood vessels to the appropriate position in the heart's pumping chamber, due to transposition of the great arteries and a patent ductus arteriosus. Without this surgery, the baby girl will face heart failure and ultimately cannot survive.
Alifa's mother, Mailah, did not feel anything unusual during her pregnancy and childbirth. However, a few hours after the baby's birth, the obstetrician suddenly noticed that the baby's skin had turned blue. Upon examination, the doctor suspected that the baby had a heart problem and informed Mailah and her husband, Arul, that they must take the baby to a nearby hospital for further examination as soon as possible.
Alifa is the couple's first child. They were originally filled with excitement to welcome the little one, but the diagnosis of their daughter's serious heart disease came as a sudden and shocking blow. The bad news left them feeling overwhelmed, and Mailah's emotions got out of control as she burst into tears. The couple fell into a deep abyss of sorrow and didn't know how to cope as they worried about their daughter's life.
Mailah and her husband are both cleaners and earn very little money from their cleaning jobs. They cannot afford the huge cost of their daughter's heart surgery, and their once-happy family suddenly lost its laughter. Helpless and desperate, Mailah and her husband turned to us for help, hoping to crowdfund the cost of their daughter's surgery.
When we promised to help them save their daughter's life, Arul, the head of the family, who had been holding back his tears, was also thrilled and grateful.
