On August 4, when Ms. Cathy fell ill in the nursing home, the social workers quarantined her and waited for an inspection report from the KKM Ministry of Health. Until the report was out and showed that she had not been diagnosed with the COVID-19 virus, they were relieved to move Ms. Cathy to stay with other elderly. They thought it was just a normal illness as the elderly in the nursing home suffered from various illnesses and disabilities from childhood to large, so they didn't take it seriously.

On the morning of August 5, the social worker discovered that Ms. Cathy had passed away in bed. They immediately call the police to deal with it. When the police checked again, they found that Ms. Cathy was diagnosed with the COVID-19 virus in the KKM system of the police. The police immediately followed the SOP for the deceased from COVID-19 and sent her remains to the hospital for checking. The result also showed that Ms. Cathy passed away due to the COVID-19 virus.

According to the dean of the nursing home, they also don't know how Ms. Cathy was infected. It is possible that some elderly who need to go to Selayang Hospital for follow-up treatment were infected and spread back to the nursing home, or the mistake of KKM Ministry of Health staff when they came to give the elderly swap test and infect the elderly and the staffs. It might also be because the nursing home is located near the market, many foreign workers came in and out and unfortunately infect the staff. However, such an incorrectly reported test result of Ms. Cathy put the nursing home in danger because everyone in the home must be quarantined. Under the pandemic, the nursing home that was originally dependent on public visits and donations has no one visit them. They were faced with insufficient funds, so they could no longer handle Ms. Cathy's funeral and could only ask us for help.

This nursing center for the disabled elderly in Selayang has been established for 58 years. Many disabled children were abandoned by their families at birth and placed here. Ms. Cathy was abandoned here from the age of 2 until she passed away here. The nursing home all relies on donations to operate. However, no one went to visit the nursing home and donate during the pandemic, which made their operations more difficult. Although most of their social workers are Indian, they take care of many Chinese elderly wells. Our social workers are also very touched by the social workers who help others in nursing homes, disability centers, and hospitals because they are also the front line people who have not been seen under this pandemic, just like us. We also know that this is more than just a job because if it were not having a caring heart, no one would be willing to make such sacrifices and not bear such responsibilities. These vulnerable elderly, sick, and desperate families who have lost their loved ones will face even more tragic conditions. Our beloved social workers often need to help in hospitals, morgues, funerals for the relatives of the patients who passed away due to COVID-19.

Therefore, we hope that everyone can continue to support and give help to every COVID-19 patient, their families, and all the staff who are fighting on the front line.

We call upon everyone to donate for Ms. Cathy’s funeral service. If anyone is interested in donation for the whole funeral service, kindly contact us for more information. Thank you.
